Dear Parents
Welcome back after the summer break!
A special welcome to our new Reception pupils who are joining St
Joseph’s this term. It is a special time for families and we look
forward to watching the new children growing in confidence and love
at St Joseph’s.
Blessing of the New Art Room
Bishop Patrick Lynch will be blessing the new art room on 16th
October at 5pm. Parents will be invited to attend. The school will
be providing cheese and wine. This will be an opportunity for
parents to meet governors and staff in an informal setting. Parents
will be able to look at resources and children’s art work displayed
in certain classrooms. A tear off slip for attendance will be sent
out via pupil post.
School Fund Contributions
The school fund contribution of £10 is a yearly subscription per
family. We rely on parents to send this amount in at the beginning
of the autumn term. The money collected is for the extra expenses
the school has to incur during the year, this includes end of term
treats, discos and subsidy for outings etc. Please send in the tear
off slip below with a £10 contribution. Thank you in advance for
your support.

Absence Requests
Bexley Council has introduced new guidelines regarding unauthorized
absences. A request has been made for Educational Welfare to receive
the names of all children who have unauthorized absence as it may
well contribute to whether legal action is feasible.
From September our registers are now on our school SIMS system, it
is very important that should your child be absent for any reason,
that you notify the school. Failure to notify the school of a reason
for absence will result in an unauthorized absence appearing in the
register.
Book Week
St Joseph’s will once again be supporting ‘Children’s Book Week’ it
runs from 1st to 7th October 2007. There will be a wide variety of
reading related activities throughout the week. On Tuesday, 2nd
October, your child will have the opportunity to take part in our
‘Favourite Character’ competition. Staff and children will dress up
as their favourite book characters, with prizes awarded to the most
original from each class. Please support your child in entering into
the spirit of the week.
School Meals
The price of a school meal is now £1.85 per day £9.25 per week.
Dinner money is due weekly on a Monday morning in an envelope with
your child’s name, class and the amount enclosed clearly written on
the envelope. If you want your child to change to or from a school
meal, please inform the office in writing. Half a term’s notice is
require for any change.
Once you have collected your child from the
infant playground at the end of the day, please leave the area as
soon as possible. Please make sure that your child does not rejoin
the class as this is preventing teachers from checking that all
children are safely handed over to their parents. Your support is
needed in this matter.
We would also like to remind parents that children will not be
allowed to go home with an alternative adult unless parental
permission is received either through the contact book or the
office.
