EASTER BREAK 2ND – 16TH APRIL INC

Absences due to Sickness

Absences must be notified to the school on the first morning of an absence, followed up by a note in the contact book or a letter. We have had difficulty getting reasons for absences and in these cases absences will be recorded as unauthorised.

Absence Requests

The Government and and Local Authority absence arrangements which we notified to parents last September are detailed again below. Absences from school must be requested by letter addressed to the Head Teacher. These requests will be considered by both the Head Teacher and the Governors. Absences will only be authorised for special circumstances. Holidays during term time (unless there are exceptional reasons) do not qualify as special circumstances and this type of request will not be authorised

Parents taking children out of school during term time without authorisation should be advised that this will be recorded as unauthorised absence. We have been notified by the borough that fixed penalty warnings and fines will be imposed for those children with a history of poor unauthorised attendance.

SATS
SATs are taking place between 14th -18th May 2007. Please ensure your children are in attendance during this week. Absences during this time will not be authorised.

No Smoking Policy
The Governors at St Joseph’s have adopted the Bexley Council No Smoking Policy, which extends to council sites. With effect from 1st March smoking will be prohibited on the school grounds, which includes the area outside the entrance to the school.

Head Lice
We take Head Lice seriously at St Joseph’s and we are aware that there may be cases that are not being reported to the school. If you child does have Head Lice, please ensure that the school are advised so that we can alert parents in specific classes. Prompt treatment would help to eradiate the problem.

Sponsored Event
We will be holding a Sponsored Event on Wednesday, 7th March. This will be in the format of a fitness circuit. Further details to be sent home by pupil post.

Spring Bulbs
Please be advised that the Spring Bulbs will be judged at school on 7th March, please ensure the children bring in their bulbs even if they do not have a flower. All bulbs will still be judged. Hopefully the children have been nurturing their bulbs. Good luck!

World Book Day - Book Tokens
World Book Day takes place on 1st March 2007. Book tokens will be sent by pupil post on Monday, 26th February. The £1 tokens can be spent between 26th February and 25th March 2007.

French and Spanish
The French and Spanish clubs will not be continuing at the present time.

Good Shepherd Appeal
The Fruit Baa Baa boxes have already been sent out to the children for this appeal, on behalf of the Catholic Children’s Society, which is taking place for Lent. Boxes can be returned to the school after the Easter break.

Active Kids 07 - Sainsbury’s Tokens
We will be participating in this again this year so please send tokens into school.

Yours sincerely

Miss P Reen
Head Teacher
